Tour Guide

April 2017 • Provo, UT

What I liked

I loved getting to interact with potential students and answer any of the questions they had. I like the flexibility of my schedule and the atmosphere. Each tour is only 1 hour, so nothing too time consuming. I also like that it requires me to get outside and engage in even the slightest bit of physical activity. I get to learn about DePaul's resources and make connections with other people my age who are going through similar experiences.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to not burn alive underneath the summer sun. Also some of the tour groups were large so it was hard to navigate them easily around the campus.

Advice

Do not wear grey shirts to give tours in the summer. Drink water. Take it seriously because we are essentially the spokespeople for incoming students and we want to leave a good first impression of DePaul and the DePaul experience.

Front Desk Receptionist

January 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

The shifts are in 4 hour increments, which is helpful when you are a student scheduling classes. You are also allowed to work on homework while at the desk, as long as you're paying attention to who is coming in and out of the building.

What I wish was different

Management can be a little disorganized and scheduling is very last minute, which can be challenging when you want to know your schedule even a week in advance.

Advice

Overall, the experience was positive due to the ability to work on homework while getting paid!

DePaul Men's Basketball Student Manager

May 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

After being with this job for nearly 6 months, I've learned so many things. I won't list everything I enjoyed about this job but I can say the most important thing I liked about this job is making relationships. With any job you have, you should always network with others and this is what I did and will continue to do.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish that could be different is communication between staff members. For any job to go smoothly, you need to be able to communicate to others important tasks or information so nobody will feel like they were left out.

Advice

I would share that you should always make a decision that your future self will thank you for. I would have never been able to have the opportunities that I have today if it wasn't for networking, communicating, or making relationships with people that could benefit me in the future.
