Teacher - The Little Spanish English School (Full-Time, Mexico City)

A Little Spanish-English School teacher has the primary task of caring for the well-being and safety of our students and designing and implementing curriculum. The Teacher reports directly to the Principal.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Curriculum
  • Develops and executes lesson plans that are aligned to the scope and sequence;
  • Assesses students on a regular basis;
  • Submits quarterly progress reports;
  • Submits quarterly report cards;
  • Assists the administration in selecting appropriate instructional materials designed to meet the needs of all learners;
  • Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate students;
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student management required to achieve effective participation in all activities;
  • Plans field trips that engage the learner and support the educational objectives of the school (where appropriate); field trip must be approved by the principal.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and provides all students with an opportunity to be successful.

Meetings
  • Attend all faculty and departmental meetings and relevant curriculum committee meetings;
  • Meets regularly with Principal/Assistant Principal for Support and Supervision;
  • Attends meetings with Counseling staff related to student’s needs;
  • Attends in-services
  • Participates in curriculum planning meetings;
  • Participates in professional development.
  • Faith Formation
  • With intention, incorporate the Values of Catholic education into the lessons;
  • Models Christian values and behaviors;
  • Participates in personal faith formation opportunities provided by the Administration
  • Discipline
  • Educates students on the skills of the discipline program including self-discipline;
  • Utilizes the steps of the disciplinary cycle to correct student behavior;
  • Maintains records on student behavior and communicates this with the administration, counselors, and parents;
  • Uses discipline as a means to teach students about citizenship and decision making.

Students
  • Supervises students at all times while students are in the care of the teacher;
  • Makes recommendations regarding counseling and educational testing.

Parents
  • Communicates with parents on a regular basis about the progress of their child;
  • Meets with parents quarterly during the year to report student progress.

Administration
  • Meets regularly with Principal/Assistant Principal;
  • Submits lesson plans weekly to be reviewed by the principal or assistant principal.
  • Submits a written syllabus for the course. This must be turned in before the start of the school year. In all matters of grading, the teacher is responsible for fully and clearly explaining the situation to parents, students and Administrators.

Other
  • Supervises student activities;
  • Substitutes for absent teachers as needed;
  • Assists in prefecting duties as needed;
  • Utilizes volunteers to best benefit the needs of the students;
  • Instructs each class in the procedures for Emergency Drills.
  • Has available in the classroom seating charts for each class.
  • Keeps complete attendance records.
  • Attends in-service days, necessary parent meetings, Open House, Back-to-School Night, all activities, and other special events deemed mandatory by the Principal.
  • Assists in perfecting at liturgies, assemblies, campus areas before and after school and during lunch/break periods, and at some extra-curricular activities.
