Arts & Letters Corporate Industry Boot Camp Participant

The College of Arts and Letters and The Career for Career Development are pleased to offer an opportunity for 20 Arts & Letters students to participate in the annual Arts & Letters Corporate Industry Boot Camp. The Arts and Letters Corporate Industry Boot Camp is offered to sophomores and juniors, and will take place during Spring Break, March 9-12, 2020 in Chicago, IL. The program will involve four class meetings prior to the program and one meeting following the Boot Camp. This unique program offers Arts and Letters students a seminar on various aspects of marketing and business operations, understanding financial analysis, and solving key management problems through case study analysis. Students will work in teams to develop and present solutions to a case study while engaging in employer and alumni discussions via presentations, lunch meetings, and panels. If you are seeking an intensive, short-term corporate learning challenge, APPLY for the Arts and Letters Corporate Industry Boot Camp!
 
Applications are due Wednesday, November 20, 2019 before 11:59 PM. Students should apply via Handshake. The application includes a resume and recorded interview questions (see Application Process and Requirements below). Students selected for 2nd round interviews will be notified and participate in those on campus in early December.  

Students selected for the program will be required to enroll in the 1-credit Boot Camp course. The pre-program class sessions will take place from 5:00-6:30PM on the following Mondays: February 10, February 17, February 24, and March 2. Students must attend all four pre-program class sessions as well as one post-program session (Monday, March 30, 5:00-6:30PM). 

Eligibility for the Arts and Letters Corporate industry Boot Camp
  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree (i.e., primary major is in Arts & Letters)
  • Sophomore or Junior standing as of Spring 2020
  • A genuine interest in exploring a career in consulting, finance, and/or marketing
  • Ability to attend the required pre-program class sessions for the Boot Camp. Food will be provided.
  • Key program information is covered at these pre-program class sessions, particularly information related to the cases presented by guest speakers and employers. In light of this and because this is a credit-bearing program, it is imperative that participants attend all of the class meetings. 
  • Enrolled full-time on the Notre Dame campus during Spring 2020

Program Details
The fall break portion of the program begins on Monday, March 9, 2020 at 10:30 AM (CST) and concludes at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 12, 2020 (CST). The bulk of the program will take place at Deloitte’s headquarters in downtown Chicago. During the program, food and lodging will be provided for student participants, except for a portion of the cost ($250) that will need to be covered by the student. Notre Dame alumni and employers will be involved in presenting information in the pre-meetings and throughout the week in addition to critiquing the team case study presentations on Thursday. Luncheons and evening events will include meeting and networking with employers and Chicago alumni. Lodging for Monday through Wednesday evenings will be provided at a hotel in downtown Chicago. See attached document for a sample schedule (subject to change). Students will receive 1 credit for their participation.  

What You’ll Gain
The Arts and Letters Corporate Industry Boot Camp will provide an intensive, challenging, short-term “boot camp” that will teach you to:
  • Understand the relationship between various components of the corporate world (marketing, finance, management, operations, accounting, etc.)
  • Collaborate with a team to develop a solution to a case study and present it to a panel of employers
  • Gain a basic understanding of case analysis, SWOT analysis, financial concepts, and marketing principles
  • Network with employers and alumni in consulting, finance, and marketing
  • Participate in office visits to learn more about consulting, finance, and marketing
  • Practice and utilize appropriate business etiquette
  • Engage in self-assessment and reflection regarding future professional interest areas
 
Requirements
  • Attend the required Arts and Letters Corporate Industry Boot Camp pre- and post-program class sessions
  • Attend all events and work sessions of the Boot Camp during Spring break week
  • Fund $250.00 of your expenses—preferred method of payment is via Marketplace. If necessary to write a check, please make it out to The Center for Career Development and bring it to 504 Duncan Student Center. The date to confirm participation and pay the fee will be Friday, January 17.
  • Sign University of Notre Dame Waiver of Liability form (Spring 2020) - this will be provided at one of the pre-program class sessions
 
Application Process and Requirements
All application materials are due via Handshake by 11:59 PM on Wednesday, November 20, 2019.

1. Resume (1 page limit) including current contact information (address, email, and telephone number). Students are strongly encouraged to have their resumes reviewed at The Center for Career Development prior to submission. Walk-In hours for resume reviews are Monday-Thursday 2-7PM and Friday 2-4PM.

2. Big Interview Video Assignment
Your computer, tablet, or device must have an operating microphone and camera to complete the Big Interview video portion of the application. The Center for Career Development has laptops to use in case yours does not have the technical functionality to complete the video portion of the application. If a laptop is needed, email undergradcareers@nd.edu to reserve a laptop and interview room during business hours (M-F, 8AM-5PM).
Steps to complete the Big Interview Video Assignment
1.      Log onto Big Interview and create your account using your ND email 
https://undergradcareers.nd.edu/preparation/interviews/preparation/ (click on “Practice” and then “Big Interview” in the 3rd bullet point)
2.      Click on the tab named “Assignments” and enter the assignment code: f7d9f3
3.      Follow the assignment question prompts. Record your answer to each of the 6 questions and save each response (please limit your responses to 90 seconds max). After completing every question click “finished” and then follow the prompts until you receive verification that your assignment is submitted. 
4.      Submit your assignment before the deadline in order to be considered for the Boot Camp.
5.      Limit each response to no longer than 90 seconds! Staff reviewing the applications will stop watching at that point.
